The Body in Pegnut Woods http://www.johnogauntinnsutton.co.uk//news/The-Body-in-Pegnut-Woods/ Wed, 07 Jul 2010 00:00:00 GMT No names mentioned but one of our regular customers was cycling through Pegnut Woods and spotted a body in a ditch. Being a responsible citizen he duly phoned the police on his mobile to report his find. He went to the road to meet the police vehicles who responded to his call and guided them back to the spot where the body lay. The police took over and moved in to get a closer look. The body turned out to be a scarecrow which some prankster had placed in the ditch to catch some unsuspecting passerby. The police were very understanding and once they had cancelled the helicopters and Crime Scene Investigators thanked our friend and assured him that, despite the outcome, he did the right thing. It may, however, be a while before our other regulars let him forget the incident.

Local Businessman saves the pub from speculators http://www.johnogauntinnsutton.co.uk//news/Local-Businessman-saves-the-pub-from-speculators/ Thu, 01 Jul 2010 00:00:00 GMT The John O'Gaunt Inn at Sutton is now a Freehouse.

The previous owners sold off a lot of their pubs and there was a danger that the John O'Gaunt Inn would be purchased for change of use and closed as a pub. A local businessman and his wife, Steve and Jennifer Waller, sympathetic to the needs of the local community, purchased the freehold and saved the day. Les and Heleena were delighted as Steve and Jennifer are well respected regulars.
Since becoming a freehouse the prices of some beers and all wines have been reduced. The new wine list has been compiled with Continental Wines of Biggleswade. There is also an internal refurbishment planned and, subject to planning permission, some building work in the pipeline.

As you can tell from the pic below Steve is delighted to be involved.

The Eagle Has Landed http://www.johnogauntinnsutton.co.uk//news/The-Eagle-Has-Landed/ Wed, 21 Oct 2009 00:00:00 GMT Trevor Gilpin, our much loved former RAF Squadron Leader and flight instructor extraordinaire, has purchased a plane. There has been much talk in the bar about this vehicle and indeed many patrons have been seen backed into a corner absorbing the technical detail as Trevor lovingly explained what this new bird was all about. We can reveal, for those of you that have not had a personal introduction, that the plane in question is a Cessna F150L, the F indicating that it was manufactured in Reims France under licence from the Cessna Aircraft Company based in Wichita Kansas.

Should have gone to Specsavers http://www.johnogauntinnsutton.co.uk//news/Should-have-gone-to-Specsavers/ Wed, 15 Jul 2009 00:00:00 GMT Woops! One well known Sutton Character (well sort of), and a patron of the pub, tripped up in the gutter and fell over. Fortunately no harm was done to him, but he did break his spectacles. At the time of the accident he was heading for the opticians.

It wasn't "Beds" this time! No names but the initials CC spring to mind!

Annie Hopeful for Songful http://www.johnogauntinnsutton.co.uk//news/Annie-Hopeful-for-Songful/ Wed, 01 Jul 2009 00:00:00 GMT SongfulAnnie's racehorse Songful is back in training again having spent the past 4 weeks on box rest after jarring herself up very badly on firm going in a race at Bath in April. She is a three year old thoroughbred out of Trillie and by Captain Rio a stallion that stands at The Pat Eddery Stables where Songful is also kept and trained.

Songful during trainingShe is shortly to race at either Kempton and/or Southwell, according to how she is going. We have watched her run several times at Kempton on the all-weather which suits her best. She is quite small, being fifteen three hands and a beautiful deep bay colour. She has a very kind nature and her lass calls her Poppy in the yard because she is such a poppet.
Sadly she hasn't won anything yet but we live in hope!
