The John O'Gaunt Inn at Sutton is home to a variety of sports many of which are traditional pub games. See the main "What's On" page for details of fixtures.

Golf Society
  Golf Society

We have a few regular matches every year which are open to all skill levels. We play against, amongst others, the John O'Gaunt Golf Club, Ickwell Cricket Club and the Dunton Dogs Golf Society. Our matches tend to be very sociable occasions and not too serious. Although, there was this one time when we beat the USA.....

Skittles Table

Skittles Team

The John O Gaunt Inn boasts one of the oldest skittles tables in the world at 130 years plus. Our skittles team, ably led by Steve Waller, are regularly seen practising for the midweek games. They even chuck a cheese or two, just for good measure. The players are a sociable bunch but are feared across the region as they are capable of inflicting defeat on unsuspecting opponents. Some opponents have fled, reputations in tatters, before the traditional match food is served.

Petanque Court

Petanque Team

The Petanque League and Cup fixtures run from May to October each year and the John O'Gaunt team is one of the "strongly fancied" teams. There is also a special competion held on New Year's Day for the "Mr. Dog" trophy. This trophy is in memory of a dog, rescued from a Korean meat market, who's rescuer brought the dog back to England (at great expense) and the dog lived happily ever after.

Cribbage board

Cribbage Team

Cribbage is one of those games which is easy to learn but takes years to master. There is a lot to learn about strategy and play making. Never underestimate the power of the pub league crib player. It is an artform and one which not many have mastered.

Darts and Shove Ha'penny

Darts and Shove Ha'penny

While there are no competitive matches played at the John O'Gaunt these traditional pub sports prove very popular amongst those parties who book the venue for company/group jollies. In particular the shove ha'penny board, along with instruction in this dark art from Les, has held audiences spellbound and generated more merriment than any of the more substantial pursuits available.
