The Packhorse Players
The idea of bringing panto to Sutton was borne over a few drinks in the John O'Gaunt Inn one night during the summer of 2005. Surprisingly enough, the idea still seemed like a great idea, even when sober so, with the bit between his teeth, and the challenge set, Steve Plummer spent the following weeks planning and writing ‘Cinderella'. This was to be the troupe's first pantomime, and was eventually performed, in front of an almost live audience of 120 people, during January 2006. ‘Aladdin' then followed in January 2008, and ‘Snow White' in January 2009. Each pantomime includes many local references and jokes, not to mention a few familiar faces in the cast. The Packhorse Players are also very lucky to include a group of extremely talented musicians who provide the musical accompaniment for both the performances and the intermission. Robin Hood The John O'Gaunt Inn hosted the after-show party for the cast and crew of the Packhorse Players following two sell out performances of this year's pantomime, ‘Robin Hood'. The ‘premier' of the DVD will take place the John O'Gaunt Inn sometime in the near future after which the much sought after copies of the DVD will go on sale to the general public.
